Hello Parents and Students,

I would like to take a minute of your time to introduce myself. My name is Barbara Peterson, and I am excited to be named the new Principal of Santa Teresa Middle School!

This past school year, I served STMS as one of the assistant principals. Prior to joining Gadsden ISD, I was the assistant principal for six years at Canutillo Middle School. An English teacher and reading specialist, I taught at Coronado High School for 13 years and gained additional experience as an instructional coach for Austin and Bowie high schools and Canutillo Middle School. During this time, I was also an adjunct instructor at UTEP, establishing a reading lab for struggling secondary students and teaching classroom reading and writing strategies to pre-service teachers. 

Originally from Southern California, I am a huge Dodger fan. I enjoy reading, writing, running, playing with my grandson and hanging out with family. 

I look forward to catching up with our incoming eighth grade students after their long summer break and meeting and learning about our new seventh graders. With the support of our dedicated faculty, staff, parents, and community, I anticipate the 2024-25 school year to be the best one yet!
